Mahachai, a town less than an hour away from Bangkok, is known for its seafood processing industry. Wawa Kai, a Burmese immigrant worker, wakes up, brushes her teeth and takes a cold shower. She goes to work at a factory where she grades squids and shrimps…

Wichanon Somumjarn

新世代泰國導演。2005年在就讀機械系時,創作了短片W.C.後,決定放棄學業追求電影夢。2009年參加亞洲電影學院的工作坊,2010年參加柏林影展電影新人學院,以及日本東京Filmex國際電影節「下一個大師」工作坊。短片《四個男孩、白威士忌、烤老鼠》(2010)獲芬蘭坦佩雷電影節最佳劇情片獎。他的第一部長片《下個四月,一場火》獲選為鹿特丹國際電影節的Hivos Tiger獎競賽片。

Wichanon Somumjarn, born in 1982, is one of a new generation of Thai filmmakers. He made the short film W.C. (2005) while studying engineering. He then decided to leave his studies to pursue his dreams in cinema. Somumjarn was a participant in the Asian Film Academy (AFA) in 2009. In 2010, he attended the Berlinale Talent Campus as well as the Next Master Tokyo Filmex in Japan. That same year he made the short film Four Boys, White Whiskey, and Grilled Mouse, which won the Best Drama Award at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland. Somumjarn’s first feature, In April The Following Year, There Was a Fire was selected for the Hivos Tiger Awards Competition at the 2012 International Film Festival Rotterdam.    

Anocha Suwichakornpong

1976年出生於泰國,畢業於美國哥倫比亞大學電影碩士學程,堪稱泰國當代最受期待的女導演之一。畢業作品《雅園幽靈》,是首部入選坎城影展的泰國短片;首部長片《看似平凡的故事》獲得金馬影展奈派克獎、鹿特丹影展金虎獎。第二部長片《生命宛如幽暗長河》讓她贏得香港亞洲新導演獎,並獲有「泰國奧斯卡」之稱的「泰國電影金天鵝獎」頒發最佳導演、最佳剪輯及最佳影片。該片也代表泰國角逐奧斯卡最佳外語片。

Anocha Suwichakornpong也是一名活躍的製片人,2006年,她在曼谷創辦製作公司Electric Eel Films,希望成為亞洲電影的新動力。她親自擔綱製片,製作作品包括《四月末,綿綿雨》、《愛情多年後回來》、《戀戀棋盤》等。2014年,至新加坡當代藝術中心駐村,2016年,擔任鹿特丹影展金虎獎評審委員。2017年,與導演Visra Vichit-Vadakan及Aditya Assarat共同成立Purin Pictures,是一個旨在支持東南亞獨立電影的基金會。現正於哈佛大學電影研究中心擔任客席研究員。

Born in Thailand, Anocha Suwichakornpong graduated from Columbia University's MFA film program. Her thesis film, Graceland, became the first Thai short film to be officially selected by Cannes Film Festival. Her first feature, Mundane History, won the Tiger Award at Rotterdam. Her second feature, By the Time It Gets Dark, earned three Thailand National Film Awards including best picture and director and was chosen as the country's Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film. Anocha is also active as a producer and founded Electric Eel Films in Bangkok. She has also teamed up with Visra Vichit-Vadakan and Aditya Assarat to found Purin Pictures, an initiative to support Southeast Asian cinema. She is currently a fellow at Harvard's Film Study Center (2018-19).
